past weekend, there was a large wildfire that raced through and ravaged the hills where I normally hike. My heart aches over the damage that was done but I am so thankful for all of the hard work of the police and fire departments who worked to contain and put out the fire.
So since my usual trails are closed until further notice, I now have the opportunity to hike some other local trails! So I’m on the hunt today so I can try one out tomorrow. I will also be taking out my new minimalist Xero shoes. They have been really comfortable for everyday use (I’ve had them about 5 days now), but I’m admittedly a little nervous about hiking in them because they are so minimal especially since my hiking shoes have been a larger boot this past year.
I’ve been wearing the Merrell Moab Ventilator mid boot mostly because I was convinced that it would help with my left ankle (it’s had several injuries), but I’ve found that they don’t really. It is still possible to roll your ankles even in a boot, so why not wear something lighter that allows my feet to move more naturally. Plus my new Xero shoes weigh in at 12.3oz (342g) versus the Merrell Moab Ventilator mid boots that weigh in at 1lb 14oz (844g). I am hoping that these minimalist Xero shoes work well for me, and I will write a review of them after I’ve taken them out a few more times on the trail.
I’m still planning on keeping my boots though. Desert camping will be starting soon and there have been a lot of snake sightings in some areas. So I am planning on bringing both out on those adventures.
If you have any favorite trails or hiking shoes let me know 🙂
Until next time, take a hike!
