So almost exactly a year ago my husband, 9 month old, and sister in law went to an REI garage sale for the first time. It was crazy and we were very unprepared for the whole event.
However, we did end up buying a 65 liter pack for me and an Osprey carrier for our little one, and we decided that day to go backpacking exactly one week later.
Flash forward to today and we hike almost every week (I’m just started the SoCal 52 hike challenge), we’ve taken our little one on backpacking trips and out car camping almost more times than I can count, my husband just spent a week in the Siarra mountains (he completed a 50 mile loop 🎉), and we now have dreams of completing the JMT (John Muir Trail) and section hiking the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail).
It’s kinda funny to think that those two impromptu puchases were the spark that kick-started this whole new hobby, or lifestyle really.
We LOVE it! And we try and take advantage of any time we get off to go out and explore.
I’ll do a post soon about what’s in my pack and why, but for now if your even a little interested in backpacking, go for it! The views are great and the adventure is worth it!
Until next time, take a hike!
